Why Learning Directly From Pro Artists Will Transform Your Storytelling Career
Most artists struggle to start their careers even after years of art school. Why? Because they lack one crucial thing, insider knowledge.
Art schools may teach you the fundamentals of storyboarding or filmmaking, but they rarely show you how to build a portfolio that stands out to entertainment studios. And with tuition costs reaching up to $50,000 per year, many graduates find themselves no closer to landing their dream job.
The Harsh Truth About Getting HiredThe only way to truly understand what studios want is to work alongside veteran artists inside the industry. But unless you have a mentor willing to guide you, it can feel impossible to break in.
To make matters worse, studios and clients won’t tell you what’s missing in your portfolio. Instead, you’re left guessing—facing rejection after rejection with no idea why. Many talented artists give up, frustrated that their hard work hasn’t paid off.
Create The Best Portfolio Of Your Career And Flourish As An Artist
The Story Artist Mentorship Program is the solution to this problem.
We provide a learning environment designed specifically for aspiring storyboard artists. Through hands-on story assignments, you’ll create studio-quality work and build a portfolio that gets noticed.
Here’s how the VIP Studio Ready Sprint works:
The frustration of rejection ends here. With the right guidance, you can create the best portfolio of your career and finally flourish as an artist.

The course is conducted through live group meetings and recorded lesson content. Every week, we join a live, members-only, online Zoom Call where we all interact and offer demos and instruction on how to improve your shots or critical things to work on. Mentees also get instruction and information from their mentors, and have the opportunity to collaborate with each other on Discord.
This makes for a valuable and influential experience, as getting direct feedback from experienced artists has always been the most beneficial way to learn.
The best part is we go through this as a team and encourage each other as we go forward, help answer questions and share information, links and other resources.
Having this camaraderie really is the most valuable part of the course, as we conquer every step of the mentorship together.
All lessons are delivered in HD and can be watched streaming from any browser.
This course goes for a full year, with every module containing in-depth, high-end lessons on subject matter not available anywhere else, online or on a campus. This course is by far the most robust course we've ever taught, whether it be online, or even private classes we've taught at Lucasfilm, Siggraph, CTN and many others.
We can confidently say there is nothing else out like this.
Colleges and universities try their best to give storyboarding classes or film classes but nothing out there will take you to the finish line with your portfolio. Plus, tuition at these schools for one year can cost up to $55,000! And you still don’t have the skills you need to land a job!
For typical university courses, you are expected to pay per term and not all the classes will be visual storytelling-related. The only way to get the kind of intense learning found inside the mentorship is to get hired by the big studios and learn the hard way on the inside from other veteran artists... if they are willing to take the time to mentor you. How can you land the jobs you want if you do not have insider access to veteran pros?
We solved that problem inside the mentorship. This is the best learning environment for story artists we have found.
We have two live-review sessions for the group to cover multiple time zones for students outside the USA. The live sessions are held on Thursday evenings and Fridays mornings, PST time, every week. We try to make these sessions as accessible as possible, so no matter what time zone you're in, there will be a session that fits your schedule.
Even if you miss a session, each one is recorded and posted to our private course archive.
You will need to have a PC or MAC computer with an internet connection and a webcam to participate in this course. You will also need a digital drawing setup that includes a tablet, Wacom, or other pen based digital drawing setup.
Included in the course price is an educational license for Toon Boom Storyboard Pro. The program focuses mostly on story techniques that can be used with any software package, or even good ol' fashioned pencil and paper. You do not need any additional software for the course.. We will be talking about digital tools and techniques within different software packages throughout the course. This includes Adobe products, Autodesk Sketchbook, TVPaint, Blender, Maya, and Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, to name a few.
For any other questions about materials, please contact us directly.
We recommend a minimum of 5 hours per week, or 20 hours per month to make the most of this course. The more time you put in, the better your results will be, but a minimum of 5 hours every week is important.
If you can't spare 5 hours each week, then maybe this course isn't right for you, right now, until you're able to free up a bit more time.
That said, the course material is spaced out very carefully, so you can put in the needed amount of time to really focus on improving your story skills. This has been a critical part of the design of the course -- to ensure you do have time, even with family, work and life commitments.
Sometimes, life happens, and so it’s natural to fall behind a little, but because of the way we deliver the course content, it's fairly easy to catch up again when your time frees up. We never want you to feel stressed that you are behind, if that is the case. We're all here to help each other. What makes this course great for keeping on track is that we are all going at our own pace, but we're all here, motivating each other.
There is NO other program out there, online or on campus that teaches you the skills we teach in our program. StoryboardArt is not just a training center, it is a global community and network of like-minded artists just like you! The mentors and students alike are very supportive of one another and the camaraderie is outstanding. Many of our students come back to share their experiences and tips and tricks with our new mentees.
Our best advice is to have an end goal. Whether it's to break into the industry or to step up to bigger story teams, do more freelance work, or secure a full-time job. Whatever your dream is, have a clear end goal before you start, so you know where you want to go with the course.
By having a goal and knowing where you are now, you can measure your success as you move forward. Whether it's getting a new portfolio or focusing on core areas, setting these goals now will guide you throughout the course, and all of us can look back afterward at how much we've grown.
Think forward a year -- do you want to be where you are right now, or do you want a change in your career path?
If you are struggling to really come to terms with exactly what you want and need guidance, please message us directly. That's what we are here for.
Yes. Even halfway through the Story Artist Mentorship, you will have a number of exercises that you can use in your portfolio to apply for jobs. In fact many of our participants do just that even before finishing up the program. Your story examples will reflect completing real sequences, using all of the latest techniques and approaches and demonstrating not only that you can work on narrative stories, but that you can handle tough assignments with confidence.
Yes. This is the course that will get you INTO the industry. Even if you are a student the material we cover will help you shortcut your training to reach you industry goals faster. The program material is straightforward for you to follow even if you aren't yet in the industry.
We have a diverse group of artists in the mentorship sessions. Some artists have professional experience and others do not. What's exciting is to see the growth in artists and be there when they really feel like they get it and the information really clicks.
By completing all the module assignments you can apply for a personalized Certificate of Completion signifying that you have completed our training program and are ready to enter the job market as a storyboard artist.
There is no time limit for applying for the certificate even if it takes you longer than the 1 year duration of the course. Only students with current active accounts are eligible for the Certificate of Completion.
One of the hottest debates in entertainment is whether AI will replace artists. While some roles are becoming automated, storyboard artists remain irreplaceable. Why? Because storytelling is about more than creating polished images, it’s about moving an audience through EMOTION, STAGING, and CREATIVE VISUAL SOLUTIONS.
Robots can generate images, but they can’t craft the gags, unique characters, and emotional beats that bring a story to life. A trained storyboard artist does far more than draw, they conceptualize, plan, and orchestrate visuals to create maximum impact.
Our program teaches you these irreplaceable skills, so you can stand out in a competitive industry. When studios hire storyboard artists, they aren’t looking for robots, they’re looking for creative minds that know how to connect with an audience. That’s exactly what we help you become.
In the Story Artist Mentorship Program, we teach you the professional techniques that set human storytellers apart. With our guidance, you’ll master the art of delivering storyboards that resonate emotionally, something no AI can ever truly achieve.
