Animation Industry: Back To The Drawing Board
Every time I talk with artists new to my classes, one common thing they constantly ask me is how did I get my foot in the door? The answer to that question is more complicated than you think. It’s not just about having a great portfolio. Its about having the right combo of skills to start your career off right. And while it will be different for each person there are some things that are common among successful professional artists working in the biggest to the smallest studios.
And I can’t think of a better person to guide you through this maze of doors than Brad Rau.
You might know Brad’s work from the Darth Vader episodes of Star Wars Rebels or the TV show Ka-Pow! Brad is an animation director and studio owner of Ghostbot Inc. famous for the E-surance commercials. He’s worked with the best and knows how to get high quality work from his collaborators.
I’ve met some passionate people in my career, but Brad is at the top of the list for work ethic, dedication, and positive energy. I worked alongside Brad while directing on Star Wars Rebels and there was no better beacon of focus and hard work than Brad. Brad built has awesome draftsmanship, but what sets him apart is a skill only a few people have mastered that has produced real powerhouse work in the animation industry.
Brad has the right attitude and mindset for success. A career is a marathon not a sprint and you have to prepare in just same way for an endurance challenge.
At this coming event Brad will show us what it’s all about.
