Emergence Workshop FAQs

When does the Workshop begin?

The Workshop will begin in August 2025 as a new addition to our existing Mentorship Program. If you are seeing this page you are on the waiting list and will be the first to know when registrations opens. The Story Artist Mentorship Program is a year-long course designed to get your portfolio to the pro level fast. The new Emergence Workshop is part of the Mentorship and begins after you register for the Mentorship Program.

What is the Story Artist Mentorship?

This 1-year intensive Mentorship Program is designed for recent art school graduates or artists who are ready to make the leap as storyboard professionals.  Taught by professional storyboard artists who are working in major entertainment studios, we train you to do studio-quality work.

Every month you are given lesson content and a story assignment with a deadline. Each module lesson tackles different skills you will need to apply in your story assignment. Assignments and deadlines are flexible enough to accommodate life events, but targeted so you get real artistic growth from this program.

Our weekly group meetings give you in-depth instruction from your Mentors and learn from your peers. Every week, we join a live, members-only, online Zoom Call where we all interact and offer demos and instruction on how to improve your shots or critical things to work on.

What software or setup do I need?

You will need to have a PC or MAC computer with an internet connection to participate in this course. You will also need a drawing setup that includes a tablet, Wacom, or other pen based digital drawing setup. A traditional sketchbook works fine too.

The course focuses mostly on story techniques that can be used with any software package, or even good ol' fashioned pencil and paper. You do not need any additional software for the course.. We will be talking about digital tools and techniques within different software packages throughout the course. This includes Adobe products, Autodesk Sketchbook, TVPaint, Blender, Maya, and Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, to name a few.

Will this course work for me if I'm not yet in the industry or I'm still a student?

Yes. This is the course that will get you INTO the industry. Even if you are a student, the material we cover will help you shortcut your training to reach your industry goals faster. The program material is straightforward for you to follow even if you aren't yet in the industry.

We have a diverse group of artists in the course. Some artists have professional experience and others do not. What's exciting is to see the growth in artists and be there when they really feel like they get it and the information really clicks.
