I always get told my inks are too finished but I would feel so embarrassed showing anyone my pencils
I guess I grew up adoring a different type of storyboards to the more common sketchy variety seen today. There’s nothing wrong with them either, they’re super dynamic. But as the years have gone by, I’ve always looked more and more at the storyboards of action cartoons from the 90’s to now for inspiration
But nowadays from looking at Legend of Korra, Ben 10 and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle storyboards, there seems to be standard of sketchiness over finish and I just have a hard time .. adjusting(?) to that. I’m not knocking the new standard by the way, Legend of Korea, Ben 10 and Ninja Turtles (+any modern series boards I’ve seen) have exceptionally gorgeous storyboards.
I think I’d be really self conscious showing storyboards like these (the top image) off in a portfolio when to me they feel really unfinished
